EVENTS HELD BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF PEGEIA

The municipality of Pegeia holds regular events in order to cater to the development of its citizens’ recreational and intellectual pursuits.

Carnival – Green Monday

The citizens of Pegeia and of other regions are welcome to enjoy the Carnival. The carnival parade and children’s area organized by the municipality of Pegeia every year is characterized by revelry and a wonderful party atmosphere. The parade takes place on Coral Bay avenue, while the dance usually takes place in one of the region’s hotels.

 

On Green Monday, the residents of Pegeia gather in the Agios Georgios area. Every year, an arts event is held in the area’s eponymous church, which includes a performance of traditional dances and songs, competitions, traditional games etc.

Easter events


The Easter events held by the municipality of Pegeia include, among other things, traditional games in the municipal car park, other games, football matches, etc.

Annual Arts Festival

The annual arts festival is usually held in August and plays host to famous artists. It aims to provide citizens with entertainment and intellectual stimulation.

Awards Ceremony for the Top Students and those successful in Higher, Highest and Educational Institutions of Cyprus and Greece.

The municipality of Pegeia supports students and awards their achievements so as to set the standard for the municipality as a whole. Education is hugely important, which is why the municipality tries to promote and recognize all efforts for intellectual development.

Christmas Events

At Christmas time, the Municipality of Pegeia organises various events and among those who take part are choirs, orchestras, school inspectors and, most importantly… Father Christmas gives out presents to the children!

Event for the Centenary of the Fountain of Pegeia’s Women

On 24 June 2007, the Municipality of Pegeia organised an event to celebrate the Centenary of the Fountain of Pegeia’s Women. It was organised in conjunction with the occupied Municipality of Lapithos, as the historic fountain was built by Achilleas Konstantinou, who was from Lapithos. The Mayor of Pegeia, Mr Neofitos Akoursiotis, and the Mayor of Lapithos, Mr Athos Eleftheriou, made speeches, while the event was hosted by the Minister of Interior, Mr Neoklis Silikiotis. A rich arts programme then followed.
