Twinned municipalities
On 12 October 1995, the Municipality of Pegeia twinned itself with the Municipality of Admiralteysky in St Petersburg, Russia and with Eresos-Antissis in Lesbos. Furthermore, on 5 November 2004 it signed a cooperation agreement with Carmarthenshire County Council in Wales. These alliances aim to broaden relations with municipalities in foreign countries and to a useful exchange of experiences, information and cultural references.
In October 2007, Pegeia Municipality participated in its first EU-funded project as a "case study" in an ongoing sustainable water management programme.
Outdoor Activities
The municipality of Pegeia has formed its own football team, Apop/Kinyras Pegeias. The team was formed in 2003, after Apop Pegeias and Kinyras Empas joined forces. The colours of its strip are blue, yellow and green. Apop/Kinyras Pegeias play in the first division.
Municipal Stadium
The municipal stadium was built between 2001 and 2002, following Cyprus Football Association (CFA) guidelines, and has permission from the CFA to hold first division football matches. Its terraces can hold 2,500 people, though more tiers were recently added, increasing its capacity by 900.
The municipal stadium includes a circuit track, gymnasium, boxing room, dancing area, jacuzzi, locker rooms, doctor's surgery and press room. Next to the stadium there is a mini football and a large car park. The Apop/Kinyras Pegeias team train at the stadium daily, as do academies. Also noteworthy is the work being done to promote sport within the tourism sector. Foreign teams have already made use of Pegeia's Municipal stadium, one example being that of the England Olympic Track and Field Athelics Team.
